Setting the stage for lifelong healthy smiles
At Perinton Dental Group in Fairport, we know that early dental experiences can shape the way children feel about oral health, which is why we focus on gentle care, patience, and prevention. From toddlers to teens, we meet kids where they are and guide them with kindness.

Kid-friendly care that grows with your child
We’re here to support your child’s smile at every stage—from first tooth to teen years.
First Dental Visits
We recommend scheduling your child’s first dental appointment by their first birthday—or within six months of their first tooth coming in. At this stage, our focus is on helping your child feel safe, comfortable, and familiar with the dental environment. We’ll gently examine their gums, teeth, and jaw to see whether everything is developing properly. You’ll also receive guidance on how to care for your child’s mouth at home, including tips on brushing, teething comfort, thumb-sucking habits, and nutrition.
Routine Cleanings and Exams
As your child grows, regular cleanings and exams become an important part of their overall health. During these checkups, we gently remove plaque and tartar buildup, polish their teeth, and thoroughly examine for any signs of early decay, alignment issues, or concerns with gum health. We understand that kids need a little extra patience and reassurance, which is why our hygienists take time to explain every step in kid-friendly language and use a gentle, calming approach.
Dental Sealants and Fluoride Treatments
Dental sealants and fluoride treatments are two powerful tools we use to support strong teeth and reduce the risk of cavities—especially during the cavity-prone years between ages 6 and 14.
Sealants are thin, protective coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth (molars), where food and bacteria often collect. This barrier helps prevent decay in hard-to-reach grooves and pits.
Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that supports strong enamel and may help reverse early signs of tooth decay. We apply it topically during checkups to give your child’s teeth an added layer of defense. These treatments are quick, minimally invasive, and effective at reducing the risk of cavities.
Cavity Treatment for Kids
Despite their best efforts, children can still develop cavities. When that happens, it’s important to treat them early to help prevent more serious dental problems down the line. At Perinton Dental Group in Fairport, we use tooth-colored, composite fillings that blend in with your child’s natural teeth—so the results look great and feel comfortable. In some cases, we may also recommend baby root canals or dental crowns for more extensive decay, but we’ll always explain the treatment options in detail and answer your questions along the way.
Education and Prevention
Teaching kids healthy habits early on can make a big difference later in life. That’s why at Perinton Dental Group in Fairport, we take a proactive approach to patient education—for both children and parents. We’ll demonstrate proper brushing and flossing techniques in ways that are fun and easy to remember, and we’ll talk about how things like sugary snacks and drinks affect their teeth. For older children and teens, we’ll provide age-appropriate tips to encourage independence in their oral hygiene routine.
At Perinton Dental Group, we believe every child deserves to feel confident and cared for at the dentist.
Schedule your child’s next visit with us—we’d love to help them smile brightly!
